Who Uses Non-Medical Nicotine Gum That Is Commercially Sold — and Why?

A study published in the Harm Reduction Journal found that nicotine gum marketed as a consumer product, not as a medical therapy, does not appeal to non-tobacco users or young adults. The study examined LUCY Chew and Park commercial product, and conducted two separate surveys. The results showed that the gum primarily appealed to adults who currently smoke or use e-cigarettes and want to quit or reduce consumption. The product had minimal appeal to youth and non-smokers. The researchers suggested the need for more research on commercial vs. therapeutic nicotine gum and other novel smokeless products. The study was funded by Lucy Goods Inc. and some authors had affiliations with biotech, pharmaceutical, and/or device companies.
