Know All About The Fatal Infection As Scientists Fear It May Jump To Humans

admin

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), known as “zombie deer disease,” is a fatal neurological infection affecting deer, elk, and moose. It has been reported in 31 U.S. states. CWD is a progressive illness that causes brain and spinal cord damage and is transmitted through body fluids. Although there are no known cases in humans, concern exists that the disease could spread to people. Preventative measures include not consuming meat from infected animals and avoiding contact with animal fluids or brain and spinal cord tissues. The disease’s potential to transfer to non-human primates through meat consumption raises concerns for human infection. There is no cure for CWD.
