New legislation prohibiting the sale of e-cigarettes to individuals under the age of 18 has been enacted by Health Minister Stephen Donnelly. The law also prohibits the sale of nicotine inhaling products to minors and carries a penalty of a fine up to €4,000 and/or a prison term of up to six months. A public consultation process is also underway to gather feedback on additional measures that could further reduce the appeal of these products to young people. The government aims to de-normalize smoking and decrease the likelihood of young people transitioning from vaping to smoking.
