Investigators describe changes to pancreatic β cells at onset of type 1 diabetes

admin

A study published in Nature Cell Biology explores the role of β-cells in the onset of type 1 diabetes (T1D), shedding light on the mechanisms involved. Researchers have identified a signaling pathway controlling the immune response in β-cells and found that enhancing levels of the enzyme METTL3 can delay disease progression in a mouse model of T1D. These findings suggest that targeting METTL3 could be a potential strategy to protect β-cells and slow down the progression of T1D. Further research in this area could lead to new interventions for this chronic autoimmune condition.
