A study by the Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) Better Care program showed that the use of digital remote monitoring technology in care homes resulted in an 11% reduction in hospital A&E attendances and a 25% decrease in emergency admissions. The Health Call app was developed by the NHS to help care home staff monitor the long-term health of residents and provide daily observations securely. The app reduced the number of hospital attendances and unplanned emergency admissions. Additionally, research indicated a cost reduction for the NHS of £57 per resident in 2018, increasing to £113 in 2021. The app provides a structured method for seeking clinical advice for the management of care home residents who become unwell.
