An online obesity treatment and maintenance program resulted in significant weight loss among primary care patients, with participants losing an average of 3.6 kg during the 3-month weight loss phase. The study included 540 adults with overweight or obesity who were enrolled in a Rhode Island primary care network. Different maintenance interventions were then tested, with participants in the monthly and refresher interventions experiencing less weight regain compared to a control group. The study highlighted the effectiveness of fully automated online programs in producing health benefits at a low cost, emphasizing the need for providers to connect patients with such programs.
