A global analysis published in The Lancet reveals that the number of people worldwide living with obesity has exceeded one billion, making it the most common form of malnutrition globally. The study, conducted by the NCD Risk Factor Collaboration, shows a significant increase in obesity rates among children, adolescents, and adults since 1990. The rise in obesity is attributed to the industrial production of energy-dense foods in the food system. Island nations in the Pacific and the Caribbean, as well as countries in the Middle East and North Africa, have the highest combined rates of underweight and obesity. In the UK and the USA, obesity rates have also seen a significant increase over the years.
