Research examines 700 plant-based foods to see how healthy they really are

A recent study investigated the nutritional content of more than 700 plant-based foods available in Australian supermarkets, including burgers, sausages, mince, milk, cheese, yogurt, legumes, and tofu. The study found that some products are high in salt or saturated fat, making them less healthy options. Plant-based meats were found to be particularly high in sodium. Recommendations included choosing whole plant foods, opting for lower sodium options, selecting canned legumes with no added salt, checking for calcium fortification in non-dairy milks, and choosing lower saturated fat options for milk and yogurt substitutes. The study also highlighted the importance of monitoring nutrition labels for healthier choices.
