Preventative services such as sexual health and weight management are facing a funding shortage next year, which will not be enough to reverse the impact of a decade of budget cuts. The grant for these services, along with tobacco, drug, and alcohol services, and early years provision, has been significantly reduced over the past ten years due to government spending restrictions. Despite a 2.1% cash uplift in the grant for 2024-25, public health leaders warn that this will not be sufficient to address the cumulative impact of years of cuts, high inflation, and staff pay increases.
