Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) in children under 15 has increased globally from 1990 to 2019, with higher incidence and prevalence rates. However, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) and mortality rates have decreased during this time. RHD is more prevalent in less economically developed countries, with the burden being higher in Eastern Sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. There is an urgent need to strengthen the prevention and control of childhood RHD in these countries and regions, especially for girls aged 10 to 14, who have a higher burden than boys. The study analyzed data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 (GBD 2019) to address this issue.
