Milk May Lower T2D Risk in Patients With Lactose Intolerance

A study has revealed that people with lactose intolerance, who frequently consume milk, might have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The research found this connection by dividing participants based on their lactase-persistent status and analyzing their milk consumption, gut microbiome and metabolites in the blood. Higher milk consumption among non-lactase-persistent individuals was associated with a 30% reduced risk of diabetes. The study suggests that this reduction might be due to the composition of the gut microbiome and changes in the circulating metabolites. This research emphasizes the need for further investigation and caution in recommending changes to dietary practices.
