The British Medical Association (BMA) is urging MPs to carefully consider plans to allow the General Medical Council to regulate physician associates and anaesthesia associates. Many medical organizations, including the BMA and the Doctors’ Association UK, have raised concerns about the regulation of these roles by the regulator of doctors. They are calling for the government’s plan to be stopped until issues concerning the scope and supervision of these roles are sorted out. The House of Commons Sixth Delegated Legislation Committee discussed the Anaesthesia Associates and Physician Associates Order 2024, and the order has been passed for MPs to raise objections to it.
