Approximately 40 million American adults have hearing loss, but only one in 10 people who need hearing aids use them. A new study from Keck Medicine of USC, published in The Lancet Healthy Longevity, found that adults with hearing loss who regularly used hearing aids had a 24% lower risk of mortality, compared to those who never wore them. The study used data from almost 10,000 adults and found that regular hearing aid use was associated with a lower risk of death, regardless of variables like degree of hearing loss, age, and demographics. The study hopes to encourage more people to wear hearing aids and further understand the link between hearing aid use and lower mortality risk.
