Contributed: Shortcomings and opportunities for health equity in pediatrics

Children and young people in the United States face challenges in receiving timely and appropriate healthcare, especially for mental health and complex medical conditions. Digital health solutions offer hope, but there is a disconnect between innovators and health systems, resulting in products that don’t fit clinical workflows or meet diverse patient needs. As incidence rates of mental health conditions rise, many children struggle to access culturally competent care. Digital solutions have potential, but often fall short in meeting patient and clinician needs and integrating into clinical workflows. Commercial incentives for pediatric digital health solutions are misaligned, leaving children and families without accessible treatment options. Collaborative efforts are needed to improve pediatric care delivery.
