A Japanese study found that wasabi, specifically its active ingredient 6-MSITC, may help boost memory in healthy adults aged 60 and older. The study, published in the journal Nutrients, involved 72 volunteers who showed an improvement in short- and long-term memory after taking a 100 mg wasabi extract supplement for three months. The researchers found that 6-MSITC reduces inflammation and oxidant levels in the hippocampus, the brain region responsible for memory. The study was funded by a wasabi maker. This research, if proven true, could have important implications for brain health and cognitive function in older adults.
