Denise Woods, for example, had her disability payments terminated without notice and is now driving nightly to find safe places to sleep after renting a house with her son. The agency claims it was overpaying Woods and has demanded that she send back nearly $58,000, withholding her $2,048 in disability monthly from February 2026. The SSA says it operates within legal parameters and offers flexible options to repay.
