STAT publishes selected Letters to the Editor in response to First Opinion essays to encourage discussion on important issues. Tara Bannow’s essay on the difficulties of pumping milk at work sparked a response from a male physician who gained a new perspective, and from another writer who highlighted organizations working to create lactation spaces in sports. Craig Idlebrook’s article about the challenges of getting ADHD medication approved received support from a fellow physician. Daniel Weiner’s piece on the lack of coverage for obesity drugs prompted a response from a health care analyst and a doctor. Sen. Maggie Hassan’s essay on addressing the opioid crisis received criticism for certain provisions in the SUPPORT Act. Janelle Goodwill’s essay on addressing the Black youth suicide crisis was praised and sparked a response from a social worker.
