A study published in Osteoporosis International found that only half of women with osteoporosis have received information on their fracture risk from their health care providers. The participants rated it highly important to receive information about their fracture risk and preferred a visual presentation with a traffic-light type of colored graph of their FRAX fracture risk probability. Additionally, they considered it important to discuss their fracture risk and the consequences of fractures with their health care professionals. The study highlights a communication gap between health care professionals and patients when discussing osteoporosis fracture risk, with improved communication needed for heightened awareness of osteoporosis and its prevention.
