“NK cell-engaging nanodrones” can selectively target and kill cancer cells

A study from UNIST led by Professors Kang and Park has made a breakthrough in cancer treatment by developing “NK cell-engaging nanodrones” capable of targeting and eliminating cancer cells. They used AaLS protein cage nanoparticles to create these nanodrones and successfully demonstrated how they activate NK cells to eliminate cancer cells. The study, published in Nano Today, offers potential for selective treatment of previously intractable cancers. The researchers received support from the National Research Foundation of Korea, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the University Key Research Institute, and the SRC Cellular Responses to Metabolic Stress Research Center. Prof. Kang is excited about this research, as it paves the way for new immune treatments for various types of cancer.
