Patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were treated with diosmin, a flavonoid supplement derived from citrus fruits. The treatment resulted in reduced swelling of the knee and leg, as well as lower pain scores during motion. The treatment did not increase short-term complications. Swelling and pain scores at rest were not significantly different between the diosmin group and the control group. The study showed that diosmin is a safe and effective treatment to reduce swelling and pain after TKA, with further studies needed to assess the mechanism by which diosmin reduces swelling and whether alternative dosing regimens might be more effective.
