“2023 has seen the most dengue cases in recorded history, primarily in the Western Hemisphere with around five million infections and 5,500 deaths, the highest since 1980. The surge in cases is linked to rising temperatures, rapid urbanization, and climate change. Factors such as poor sanitation, inadequate health systems, and climate change have attracted more mosquitos and caused greater virus transmission. The symptoms include headache, fever, muscular pain, and life-threatening complications. Preventing measures include vaccinations and protection from mosquito bites. Dengue affects approximately 129 countries and half the world’s population, and the virus is transmitted by infected mosquitoes.”
