Increased sedentary time during childhood can raise cholesterol levels significantly as an adult, increasing the risk of heart problems and premature death. However, a study has found that light physical activity can reverse these risks and is more effective than moderate-to-vigorous physical activity at promoting heart health. The research was conducted using data from children aged 11 years and followed up to the age of 24. Results showed that increased sedentary time can raise cholesterol levels in young adults by two thirds. The study suggests that light physical activity should be emphasized as an important part of a healthy lifestyle for children.
