The relationship between insulin levels after eating and long-term heart and metabolic health is not as problematic as previously understood. Dr. Ravi Retnakaran and his team have found that the suggestion that insulin surge signals poor health is inaccurate. It can actually be an indicator of good health. Their study, published in eClinicalMedicine, challenged previous findings by looking at insulin responses over an extended time period and after accounting for baseline blood sugar levels. The research showed that a robust post-challenge insulin secretory response prompts favorable metabolic function, reducing the risk of pre-diabetes or diabetes in the future.
