A study found that women with pregnancy complications or poor heart health post-pregnancy are at a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease later in life. Maintaining or improving cardiovascular health through lifestyle changes can reduce this risk. The study analyzed data from the UK Biobank on 500,000 adults, finding that higher Life’s Essential 8 scores, which include factors like healthy eating and quitting smoking, were associated with a lower risk of heart disease. Women with complications who improved their heart health had a similar risk as those without complications. The study suggests the importance of identifying high-risk women and providing interventions to reduce cardiovascular disease risk.
