A study found that higher levels of apolipoprotein A-I were associated with the development of giant cell arteritis (GCA) in patients. The study included data from the Malmö Diet Cancer Study and revealed that patients who later developed GCA had higher levels of apolipoprotein A-I at baseline compared to controls. Apolipoprotein B levels did not show a significant association with GCA development. The study suggests that individuals with a healthy metabolic profile may be at an increased risk for developing GCA. This information could aid in understanding the pathogenesis of GCA and may contribute to the development of new treatments and diagnostics.
