Global study reveals neurological conditions are the leading cause of ill health

admin

A new study published in The Lancet Neurology reveals that more than 43% of the world’s population, around 3.4 billion people, have a neurological condition. This makes neurological conditions the leading cause of ill health and disease globally. The global burden of neurological conditions has increased by 18% since 1990, surpassing cardiovascular diseases as the top contributor to the global disease burden. Diabetic neuropathy is the fastest growing neurological condition, with the number of cases more than tripling since 1990. The study also found that the majority of neurological deaths and health loss occur in low- and middle-income countries.
