Robert Geoffrey Chaytor was a medical school graduate from King’s College who served in the Royal Army Medical Corps in various locations. He later trained as an ear, nose, and throat surgeon, and became a consultant in 1952. Chaytor played a key role in opening the new Walkergate Hospital in Newcastle, which was repurposed from a fever hospital. The hospital was intended to be the site for the third main general hospital in Newcastle.
