UK science secretary Michelle Donelan falsely accused a member of a diversity group, Kate Sang, of supporting Hamas in a letter last October. Donelan later apologized and agreed to pay libel damages and costs to Sang. An investigation by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) found no evidence of support for Hamas. Donelan also accused another diversity group member, Kamna Patel, of sharing extremist material, which was also found to be untrue by UKRI. Sang and Patel expressed their disappointment with the way Donelan and UKRI handled the situation, with Sang planning to donate part of the damages to charity. The matter has now concluded with no findings against the academics.
