Only 9% of older Americans vaccinated against RSV, study finds

admin

A study from Texas A&M University found that only 9% of older Americans were vaccinated against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) despite the threat of increased hospitalization and deaths from the virus. RSV, along with COVID-19 and influenza, forms a ‘tripledemic’ in the US. The study, published in Health Affairs Scholar, surveyed seniors over 60 and found that men, those with higher concern about the disease, and those who trusted health institutions were more likely to be vaccinated. Vaccine hesitancy, lack of information, and safety concerns were reported by the unvaccinated. Addressing vaccine hesitancy through education and policy is crucial in preventing illnesses and hospitalizations.
