The study presented at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Annual meeting revealed new risk factors for food allergy in children. Factors such as gastroesophageal reflux, antacid drug use, gestational age, birth weight, and blood type were identified as potential risks. Other established risk factors include personal or family history of atopic comorbidities, genetic predispositions, male sex, vitamin D deficiencies, and hygienic environments. The study focused on infants during their first 6 months of life, finding that high socioeconomic status, personal history of atopic dermatitis, firstborn status, gastrointestinal disease diagnosis, and maternal asthma were associated with an increased risk of food allergy. Further research is needed to verify these findings.
