A recent study analyzed data from over 4,500 adults aged 70 and older in order to provide details on out-of-pocket expenses for people with dementia. The study found that long-term care costs create a significant financial burden, with the median adult with dementia in residential facilities spending 97% of their monthly income on long-term care. Nursing home residents spent nearly 83% of their monthly income on long-term care. The study highlights the financial strain on individuals and their families due to dementia care and suggests increasing funding for home- and community-based care to reduce this burden.
