Researchers from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine have received £2 million in funding to develop vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutics. The funding is part of a larger award to establish a GlycoCell Engineering Biology Mission Hub at the University of Nottingham. The hub will focus on unlocking the potential of sugars, called glycans, to accelerate vaccine discovery and production, generate new therapeutics and diagnostics, and reduce production costs of advanced drugs. The project involves a collaboration between multiple universities and industrial partners. The goal is to utilize glycan sugars for research and applications in biology and medical biotechnology, epidemic preparedness, vaccine development, and antimicrobial resistance.
