MPs have reported that the 10-year government strategy to reduce illegal drug use, drug-related deaths, and crime has failed to deliver. Despite a budget of £903m for 2022-25, there has been no reduction in drug-related deaths and harms. The chair of the Public Accounts Committee, Meg Hillier, expressed concern over the rising deaths from drugs and the lack of reduction in drug use over the past 10 years. The strategy, From Harm to Hope, has not seen the expected progress, despite launching in December 2021. The independent review chaired by Carol Black reported a 40% reduction in funding in real terms for the strategy.
