The REGAIN study by UK researchers involved an online program to aid people with long Covid, focusing on mental health therapy and exercise guidance. 485 subjects were divided into two groups, one of which received a standard advice session, while the intervention group received an individualized, self-paced approach to eight-week group sessions of psychological counseling and exercises. After three months, 17% in the intervention group reported better health compared to 8% in the usual care group. Early backlash to the concept of exercise training in post-viral conditions was overcome, and the trial was seen as a good starting point to provide treatment strategies for clinicians. The trial’s safety was also confirmed with no post-exertional exacerbations of symptoms being identified. Some experts had concerns regarding the findings from REGAIN and their applicability to post-Covid community patients.
