Halfway Through ‘Unwinding,’ Medicaid Enrollment Is Down About 10 Million

admin

Enrollment in the Medicaid program is almost back to pre-pandemic levels after over 16 million people were removed from the program. Many were dropped due to procedural reasons or increased income, but many others have been reenrolled or signed up for the first time. Medicaid enrollment churn is not new, but it has happened in a shorter time period during the “unwinding.” The Biden administration underestimated the number of people who would lose coverage, with over 17 million disenrollments so far. It is uncertain how many of the disenrolled individuals are now uninsured.
