The study by Amsterdam UMC in collaboration with UMC Groningen and 17 other Dutch hospitals found that a Doppler ultrasound can be used to detect placenta problems in small unborn babies. Deviations from Doppler measurements can indicate a higher risk of oxygen deficiency and other health problems for the baby. Small babies with a malfunctioning placenta may require intervention during pregnancy or induction of labor. The study also found that Doppler ultrasound can help detect pregnancies in babies that are too small with a malfunctioning placenta, allowing for better monitoring and intervention. The research has shown that Doppler ultrasound has added value for detecting placenta problems in small unborn babies.
