The Irish government has opened a public consultation for new proposals to protect vulnerable adults from abuse while receiving care. The consultation is seeking submissions from the public before the formation of the country’s first national policy on adult safeguarding in the health and social care sector. The proposed policy aims to prevent, respond to, and intervene in cases of abuse, as well as support adults’ decision-making rights. Minister Mary Butler encouraged the public to participate in the consultation, which will apply to all public, private, and voluntary healthcare and social care services. The consultation portal is open until March 13, and feedback will shape the national policy.
