Intestinal ultrasound (IUS) was found to lead to earlier treatment changes and faster remission for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) compared to conventional disease monitoring in a small retrospective analysis. In a study of 30 IBD patients who were not in remission at week 8, those who were monitored using IUS had reduced time to treatment change and clinical remission compared to those monitored using a conventional approach. The study highlighted the potential of IUS in IBD management, with more research needed to fully establish its impact on patient outcomes. The study received funding from the Mutchnik Family Foundation and had financial disclosures from the authors. Ultrasound was also seen to provide a more patient-centered approach to IBD care.
