Multivitamins and Cognition: New Data From COSMOS

admin

New data from the COSMOS study suggests that a daily multivitamin may help protect the aging brain, especially memory and cognitive function. However, the evidence is met with skepticism as experts are concerned about the study’s methodology and question the meaningful clinical benefit of multivitamins for brain health. The study’s meta-analysis indicated that multivitamins are associated with improved cognition in older adults, but independent confirmatory studies are needed. The findings, however, have the potential to significantly impact public health by improving brain health and reducing healthcare costs. The Alzheimer’s Association also emphasizes the importance of lifestyle interventions in protecting cognitive health. The study was supported by Mars Edge and the National Institutes of Health. No relevant disclosures were reported by study investigators, or by Dr. Labos and Ms. Sexton.
