University of Queensland researchers have used dosing software to speed up the effects of antibiotics in sepsis patients in Intensive Care Units. The software improved antibiotic exposures in adults and children with sepsis, leading to faster recovery, higher quality care, cost savings, and increased bed availability in hospitals. The technique used in the DIRECT study identified bacteria causing severe infections and personalized dosing for each patient. The trial, involving children and adults at four major Brisbane hospitals, resulted in improved infection treatment accuracy. The research was funded by MRFF and published in Intensive Care Medicine, showcasing the commitment to providing optimal care for patients.
