Thyroid Disorders and Gynecologic Cancers: Is There a Link?

A study found that women with hyperthyroidism have a lower risk of developing gynecologic cancers compared to those without thyroid disorders. The study used data from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database and followed women diagnosed with thyroid disease between 2000 and 2018. Women with hyperthyroidism had a significantly lower risk of gynecologic cancers, especially those aged 20-40 years. The association between hypothyroidism and gynecologic cancer risk was not statistically significant. The findings highlight the need for further research to understand how thyroid hormones regulate reproductive function. Limitations include data from administrative databases and the inability to link thyroid hormone status to cancer risk.
