This State Isn’t Waiting for Biden To Negotiate Drug Prices

The federal government is negotiating with drugmakers to lower the price of expensive drugs for Medicare patients. Colorado is going a step further with a new Prescription Drug Affordability Review Board, setting an “upper payment limit” for unaffordable drugs. Enbrel and Stelara are the first drugs under review. Colorado’s plan covers all patients and aims to set upper price limits. The state anticipates litigation from drugmakers. More than a dozen states are also working to rein in drug prices. Patients face high costs, causing many to not take prescribed medications. It is unclear if federal or state efforts to control drug prices will succeed.
