The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland now offers paid leave for staff who become parents through surrogacy. The new surrogacy leave policy allows for 24 weeks of paid leave and 16 weeks of unpaid leave, matching the university’s adoptive leave policy. Staff will retain all annual leave, privilege, and public holiday entitlements while on leave. This policy was developed with input from an employee engaged in the surrogacy process and an internal consultation group, given the lack of surrogacy legislation and state benefits in Ireland. The goal is to support all paths to parenthood equally and allow staff to focus on their new responsibilities.
