A recent study found that people with persistently high metabolic syndrome scores are at an increased risk of developing various types of cancers, including breast, endometrial, kidney, colorectal, and liver cancer. Metabolic syndrome consists of conditions such as high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess abdominal fat, and abnormal cholesterol levels, which can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. The study, which monitored 44,115 adults in China over a 9.4-year period, showed that those with consistently high metabolic syndrome scores and chronic inflammation were at the highest risk of developing certain types of cancer. The findings suggest that proactive management of metabolic syndrome could be vital in preventing cancer and further research is needed to understand the biological mechanisms linking metabolic syndrome and cancer.
