New England Biolabs has introduced the NEBNext Enzymatic 5hmC-seq Kit, a new method for detecting 5hmC sites with high yields and quality data. While the biological significance of 5hmC is not fully understood, its variation between tissues suggests it plays a role in gene regulation. Existing methods do not effectively distinguish between 5mC and 5hmC, limiting their utility. The E5hmC-seq Kit allows for specific detection of 5hmC sites through a two-step enzymatic conversion process. This method minimizes DNA damage and enables precise determination of 5mC and 5hmC sites. The kit includes reagents for conversion and library preparation compatible with Illumina sequencing.
