Exposure To BPA Linked To Gut Microbiome, Childhood Obesity: Study

Bisphenol A (BPA) found in plastic products like water bottles is linked to disruptions in hormonal function, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, and now a new study suggests it impacts the gut microbiome and childhood obesity. Researchers in Spain found that exposure to BPA can promote different microbial communities in children depending on their body mass index (BMI). Normal-weight children had more unique bacteria that can degrade BPA, showing greater resilience to BPA exposure compared to overweight or obese children. The study highlights the complex relationship between gut microbiota, BPA exposure, and human health, emphasizing the importance of being aware of potential health risks from microplastics.
