Eczema Linked To Learning, Memory Difficulties In Children With Neurodevelopmental Comorbidities: Study

A recent study found that children with atopic dermatitis (eczema) and neurodevelopmental comorbidities, such as ADHD or learning disabilities, are at a higher risk of cognitive impairment, including memory and learning difficulties. Eczema is a chronic skin condition that can cause dry, itchy, and inflamed skin, often leading to other conditions like food allergies, hay fever, and asthma. However, among children without neurodevelopmental conditions, eczema did not show an association with cognitive impairments. The study, which evaluated over 69.7 million U.S. children, suggests that further research is needed to understand the relationship between atopic dermatitis and cognitive impairment.
