The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) is urging the Health Service Executive (HSE) to lift the moratorium on recruiting frontline patient-facing staff due to a 13% increase in emergency department attendances. INMO General Secretary Phil Ní Sheaghdha highlighted that nurses and midwives are facing challenges and increased workload without additional staff. The lack of investment and recruitment is putting patient safety and staff morale at risk. The recruitment freeze is causing a strain on the healthcare system and will have long-term negative effects on patient care and staff retention. The INMO is calling for urgent action to reverse the recruitment moratorium.
