The annual report from the Alzheimer’s Association revealed that approximately 6.9 million older adults in the US are living with Alzheimer’s disease, with another 200,000 under age 65 having younger-onset AD. Despite little change in prevalence since 2023, the number of people over 65 with AD is predicted to almost double by 2050. The report also highlighted a significant increase in AD-related mortality, shortages in healthcare professionals and direct care workers, and challenges in navigating dementia care. With AD cases expected to rise, without new treatments, healthcare costs could reach $1 trillion by 2050. Initiatives like dementia care navigation programs may help alleviate these challenges.
