A recent study published in Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition found that there is a lack of consensus within the scientific community about what “low carb” means. Most studies define low-carb as having 100 grams or less of carbohydrates daily, but some have much stricter definitions. The study’s principal investigator, Taylor Wallace, emphasized the need for a clear definition, as well as further research into the long-term effects and sustainability of low-carb diets. The study also highlighted the importance of safety concerns and potential nutritional deficiencies associated with low-carb diets. Wallace suggested that further research and a systematic review are needed to define what “low-carb” really means.
